A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Adrian Gallagher at 10 a.m. on Thursday in Our Lady of Hope Church, First and Chestnut streets, Coal Township. Interment will follow Mass in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library, 201 E. Independence St., Shamokin 17872, or Our Lady of Hope Church Memorial Fund, 863 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township 17866. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township.

ANNE W. O'NEILL

95, of Mount Dora, Florida went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2014. Born in Middleboro, Kentucky, she was the youngest of four daughters born to John Lee Willis and Alice Hodges Willis. She grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee but had a desire to leave her small town roots and travel the world. During her travels she met her husband, John L. O'Neill, a career naval officer at a Navy dance in San Diego. They soon married and enjoyed 64 wonderful years together. Anne loved to travel and visit new places and during her husband's Naval career they lived in numerous regions of the United States and Europe. She was active in supporting the Navy Relief Program through hundreds of hours of volunteer work for the Navy Relief Society. Anne was an avid golfer enjoying many years golfing with her husband, family and friends. She also played in tournaments, where she had the opportunity on occasion to meet and play with professional golf celebrities. Other hobbies she enjoyed over the years include piano, guitar, knitting, ceramics, playing bridge and she loved to dance. Anne's real joy was cooking and entertaining family and friends in their home. She enjoyed frequent visits with what became a very large extended family, of which she was very proud. Love of family was the essence of her life, and her family in turn will miss her sweet and loving charm. Anne was preceded in death by her three sisters, Jennie Lee Whelehan, Martha Isabell Purcell and Katie Evelyn Sims. Anne is survived by husband John L. O'Neill, retired Navy Commander, her son Robert L. Burkhart and his wife Linda and four grandchildren-Diane Morton and husband John, Robert Jr. and wife Maggie, Michael and wife Lisa and Patrick and wife Jennifer. She had eleven great grandchildren, D.J., Ryan, Ashley, Heather, Chase, Chad, Travis, Natalie, Caroline, Matt and Cody. Other surviving family members are a niece, GladysAnn Simpson and her children Van Simpson III and wife Glenn and Isabelle Hebberger and husband Bill. Anne was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Mount Dora, Florida, where services will be held on Thursday, March 20th at 9:00 a.m. Private inurnment at the church cremation garden will take place afterward.

Qué podemos aprovechar del análisis austiniano del significado y de la verdad?
En los últimos años, ha ido radicalizándose cada vez más una separación entre los defensores del análisis semántico del lenguaje (aquellos que consideran que el significado de las emisiones viene ya inserto en las mismas palabras emitidas) y los partidarios de una visión pragmática del mismo (defensores de un significado determinado por elementos contextuales que permiten mostrar lo que el hablante quiere decir). En base a establecer los inicios de dicha separación, presentamos en este texto las primeras disputas entre Austin y Strawson respecto de las nociones de verdad y significado, con la pretensión de establecer los términos en los cuales tendrán lugar los desarrollos posteriores (apartado 1). También presentaremos el origen de una dicotomía actual respecto de la determinación del significado (apartado 2): actualmente se considera posible diferenciar entre lo que se dice (what is said) y lo que se quiere decir (what is meant). Defenderemos la visión austiniana de la determinación del significado, más allá de la intencionalidad presente en el lenguaje puesta de relieve por Grice, que apuesta por una visión contextualista del significado (defendiendo la necesidad de la presencia de elementos externos al propio lenguaje para determinar el significado de las propias emisiones lingüísticas) que tendrá implicaciones para la actual Teoría del Conocimiento y la actual Filosofía de la Mente (apartado 3). Este texto, además, pretende defender una concepción de la filosofía austiniana que haga justicia al leng uaje y a su naturaleza, al significado y a su determinación y al conocimiento y su justificación, intentando presentar, a su vez, una particular teoría del significado acorde con las actuales polémicas entre literalistas y contextualistas.
