Shooting won't cost community
Port Washington The city will not be asked to pay for about $95,000 in expenses related to a 1988 fatal shooting, said Ozaukee County Corporation Counsel Dennis E. Kenealy. The costs, which include subsequent legal fees, were incurred during an October 1988 standoff in which a sheriff's deputy fatally shot Robert Liebenstein, 37, of Port Washington, after he fired about 40 rounds from his shotgun. The city Police Department had requested assistance from the county's SWAT team.
County wants pet dog `Cujo' destroyed Owner says Rottweiler is gentle, despite fights with other canines
It is true that Cujo has fought with dogs belonging to the neighbors, [Patricia Akerlund] said. But many times other dogs have come into the Akerlunds' yard and it is not clear which animal started the fight. \"They let their dogs run loose and they come over and poop in our yard,\" Patricia Akerlund said. \"We also have a Welsh Corgi. In one fight, we don't know what happened. The other dog could have attacked Sadie and Cujo could have been protecting her.\" Cujo is a gentle, well-behaved dog who has never attacked a human, Patricia Akerlund said. In fact, Akerlund said, she recently took Cujo to her daughter's elementary school class and the teacher said Cujo was the best-behaved dog she had ever seen.

Ozaukee County eyes recovery of legal fees in shooting case
Port Washington Ozaukee County officials will decide Thursday whether they will ask the City of Port Washington to pay for more than $84,000 in expenses relating to a case in which a sheriff's deputy fatally shot a city man. Federal Judge Robert W. Warren ruled earlier this month that officers of the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Department were justified in killing Robert Liebenstein, 37, during an October 1988 standoff. Ozaukee County Corporation Counsel Dennis E. Kenealy, who handles legal matters for the county, said the city and county were operating under a mutual- aid pact in which the county agreed to pay expenses related to its employees.

Stumpf didn't violate policy in listing Web site
Port Washington -- Ozaukee County clerk candidate Glenn Stumpf did not violate any county policy when he listed his official county supervisor's Web site in his campaign literature, county Corporation Counsel Dennis E. Kenealy told the County Board's Technology Resources Committee on Tuesday. The issue surfaced Sept. 7 when [Kimberly McCulloch] complained to Administrative Coordinator Tom Meaux and County Board Chairman Kate Smith that Stumpf was violating the county's ordinances on the use of its Web site. McCulloch argued that Stumpf's listing of his county Web address on his campaign literature violated county ordinances that prohibit the use of any county asset for political purposes.
