Boys take it seriously
The Boys first made the Australian charts in 1985 with West End Girls. [Dean Lotherington] has stripped away their dance beats, leaving lyrics and melodies -- and emotions normally concealed by synthesised slickness. \"[Neil Tennant] has quite an aloofness about him; he doesn't emote,\" Lotherington says. \"Yet his lyrics are full of emotion. So you give them to [Maria Mercedes], and suddenly you hear it.\"
Front ROW
All nominees have performed for companies that belong to the AEIA. These companies enter the nominees. Others have questioned why the nominees, or companies, should pay for travel and accommodation to attend, when the AEIA has both travel and accommodation sponsors. [Jonathan Mills] praised [Juliana Engberg]'s intelligence and extraordinary knowledge of Australian art and said [Janina Harding] was a tower of strength, who showed great wisdom and patience.
Rewriting Goldilocks; Students are reinventing traditional fairy tales to reflect their heritage and diverse experiences, writes Thulasi Srikanthan
In the end, [Heather Lotherington] said the children exceeded her expectations in how far they went in reinventing narratives - starting from simple things such as altering Goldilocks' food of choice, porridge, into pizza, ice cream or pie. Colin McConnell toronto star Students at Joyce Public School, left to right, Yalin Tepe, Raymond Lam, Oskan Kalli and Katelin Troung, use computer software to reimage their modern aquatic adaptation of \"The Three Little Pigs.\" Colin McConnell toronto star Students at Joyce Public School, left to right, Yalin Tepe, Raymond Lam, Oskan Kalli and Katelin Troung, use computer software to reimage their modern aquatic adaptation of \"The Three Little Pigs.\"
Obituaries: Sir Michael Weir
He retained that unflappability which had stood him in such good stead as a diplomat. On a 21st Century Trust study tour to South Africa and Namibia, he stayed on an extra day to go walking on the great dunes of the Namibian desert (already in his seventies, although showing no sign of it). On the drive back to Windhoek a tyre blew out, and the car overturned, leaving [Michael Weir] and his passenger seemingly marooned in the desert.

Time for video games in school, York professor says
Heather Lotherington says the skills needed to create and operate video games, websites, cellphones and other technology represent a new kind of literacy. And schools need to recognize and include this new literacy, says Lotherington, a professor of linguistics and education. Lotherington says many people think of \"literacy\" as being able to read and understand words on paper. Lotherington said she doesn't want to eliminate the great novels and plays from being studied in class as they always have. But it's time to get flexible, and include new ways to encourage critical thinking.
Guide leader died in horse accident
Mrs [Susannah Webb], of Brocksburn Park, Pegswood, had saddled up an old, slow and dependable horse called Jasper but Mrs Booth was riding a \"young and flighty\" horse named Squire, whose owner was in the RAF. North Northumberland coroner Ian McCreath said it was a simple, tragic accident and no-one was to blame in any way. \"We have heard that Mrs Webb's horse Jasper was slow, old and dependable but Squire was a young, flighty horse. Mrs Booth was an experienced horsewoman and for reasons we know not, Squire collapsed or fell directly on top of her upper body,\" he added.
Horse kills guide leader
Jane Booth, a keen rider since childhood, was out on her own schooling a young horse at her family's stables when the animal collapsed on top of her. At the family home in East Road, Longhorsely, near Morpeth, her daughter Rachel Lotherington, who is also a teacher and horse- lover, led the tributes. Mrs Booth first learned to ride at the age of eight, and went on to ride for the Morpeth Muddlers in team chasing competitions. Her family said 27-year-old horse Jasper, was her pride and joy.
Not your average Joe
A modest Melbourne musical, Joe Starts Again, is the only Australian show selected for the inaugural New York Music Theatre Festival next month. It was originally a play, Dating Joe, written by Melbourne's Mark Fletcher, but has been adapted into a musical by [Martin Croft] and [Dean Lotherington]. The local arts industry has thrown its support behind the work with artists Ian Stenlake, Rachel Beck, Nancye Hayes, Simon Burke, Chloe Dallimore and Tony Sheldon performing at two fundraiser concerts at Theatreworks on August 16-17. The concerts will be followed by farewell performances of Joe Starts Again.
A sparkling treasure
[Wendy Stapleton] is best known as the lead singer in 1970s group Wendy and the Rocketts, but won acclaim in recent years for her tribute show, The Dusty Springfield Story. Wendy's Wacky Hollywood Wheel tests the punters' film music credentials while [Dean Lotherington] is more acid-tongued Cornelia than Cornelia Frances in The Weakest Link. Stapleton and Lotherington shine in this musical motion picture retrospective -- it is an upbeat show that screams \"hooray for Hollywood\".
