Customizing your motorbike : shed-built to show bike
MOTORCYCLES: GENERAL INTEREST. Building a custom motorcycle has never been more popular, with even the major manufacturers keen to capitalize on the growing trend. A custom motorbike is the product of an owner using their own skills to produce an individual machine, and with the right tools and approach it is well within most people's means to take a standard machine, new or second-hand, and make it their personal statement. Providing clear and practical advice, this new book, Customizing Your Motorcycle - Shed-Built to Show Bike introduces the reader to the techniques and processes needed to customize any motorcycle. Eschewing the practice of using expensive off-the-shelf parts, it shows how the shrewd use of salvaged and alternative sources is not only economic but also results in a satisfyingly unique custom machine. Projects demonstrate how to make custom parts, while examples of how different custom bikes were built by the author show how they are designed and put together.
Real-time vehicle counting using custom YOLOv8n and DeepSORT for resource-limited edge devices
Recently, there has been a significant increase in the use of deep learning and low-computing edge devices for analysis of video-based systems, particularly in the field of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). One promising application of computer vision techniques in ITS is in the development of low-computing and accurate vehicle counting systems that can be used to eliminate dependence on external cloud computing resources. This paper proposes a compact, reliable and real-time vehicle counting solution which can be deployed on low-computational requirement edge computing devices. The system makes use of a custom-built vehicle detection algorithm based on the you only look once version 8 nano (YOLOv8n), combined with a deep association metric (DeepSORT) object tracking algorithm and an efficient vehicle counting method for accurate counting of vehicles in highway scenes. The system is trained to detect, track and count four distinct vehicle classeses, namely: car, motorcycle, bus, and truck. The proposed system was able to achieve an average vehicle detection mean average precision (mAP) score of 97.5%, a vehicle counting accuracy score of 96.8% and an average speed of 19.4 frames per second (FPS), all while being deployed on a compact Nvidia Jetson Nano edge-computing device. The proposed system outperforms other previously proposed tools in terms of both accuracy and speed.
The ride : 2nd gear
\"Men and motorcycles: a story that has vacillated somewhere between cult and clichâe for years. Custom bikes, in particular, have a history that is deeply rooted in the spirit of freedom and change of the 1960s, as well as man's primal urge to build something with his own hands --or, in this case, tools. The Ride 2nd Gear is a showcase of the power and beauty of these bikes. The book presents a stunning selection of recent custom motorcycles, as well as the small, local workshops around the globe in which they are built. Hotbeds of creativity and craftsmanship, these workshops are mostly run by single individuals and attract a small yet devoted community of fans and fellow builders. Rather than coveting the newest luxury models to come off the assembly line, this community is more concerned with transformations. They want to turn grandpa's old heap, a bargain found on eBay, or a soulless model from another era into something of their very own. They want to augment old motors and existing mechanics with modern technology or make their personal visions of aesthetics and handling a reality. This process takes time, dedication, technical expertise, and skilled handcraft.\"--Publisher description.

KING OF THE MOUNTAIN
John Force becomes winningest driver at Bandimere Speedway in return to the winner's circle It looked for all the world like John Force's win at the 2017 Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals would be his last midway through the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season. No one needed a reason to fear Leah Pritchett before she swept the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals in the Mopar Dodge 1320 Top Fuel dragster. Following a final-round victory over Jerry Savoie - a final in which both riders red-lighted but Savoie fouled first - Arana finally parked his Lucas Oil TV EBR in the Denver winner's circle with incredible consistency both on the track and at the starting line. BABY STEPS Matt Hagan and the Mopar team debuted the new Dodge Charger Hellcat Funny Car body at the Dodge Mile- High NHRA Nationals powered by Mopar in Denver, a slick new piece with a number of significant changes to the previous design, including a new front splitter, new side contour, and a new burst panel location.

Hight gets it done, Skillman goes back to back, Brown wins again, and Krawiec gets the Harley team back in the winner's circle to start Western Swing After coming painfully close to winning in Norwalk and suffering a perhaps even more excruciating first-round defeat one event later in Chicago, Robert Hight put it all together a mile above sea level at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Denver. The Funny Car driver broke a 12-race winning streak for Don Schumacher Racing floppers by bringing home his first Wally since winning in Houston in 2016. Before you start thinking DSR got shut out in the Mile-High City, Antron Brown found the winner's circle for the third time this season and the third time at Bandimere Speedway. REACH FOR THE SKY
Matt Gumplowicz always wanted to run his own business. His first driving job had been in the manual labor-intensive removals sector, so perhaps it's not a surprise that his head was turned by something that could lend a hand with the heavy lifting. He recounts that one particular day on a job, a big HIAB came around the corner and he stood there, watching in awe as the driver lifted a machine off the back of the lorry. He decided there and then that it was something he was going to start doing. And he did. He moved on from removals and gained further experience driving for builders' merchants, a useful next step. In 2012, Gumplowicz was ready to start out on his own and G Force Transport officially came into being and started trading soon after from the company's Dartford base. Obviously a transport company needs a truck and the first to join the G Force fleet was a Scania, a marque that dominates his current fleet. That first truck was bought second hand through Mac's Trucks of Huddersfield, which provided such good service that G Force has bought all its trucks through the Yorkshire dealer.
