Tonight's Treat: Halloween's Unwritten Rules of Candy-Gathering
2013
Probably the biggest question associated with trick-or-treating is when is a kid is too old to go out asking for candy? I'd say the 13 to 14 age range is a solid cutoff cut. If the kid is old enough to get a learner's permit, shave or is no longer interested in Disney Channel musical artists, then it's time to hang up the candy bucket. If a kid comes up to your door and they're not wearing a costume, don't give them any candy. It would be one thing if we lived where it snows on Halloween and people have to wear winter coats over their costumes, but we don't. It shows a lack of effort or creativity to not come up with something. Some people are not fans of Halloween or don't want their doorbell ringing every 30 seconds. That's OK, but it's best to make it obvious you don't want to be disturbed.

It's an overall experience with your pet, with your friends that you get to do after the (Lake Mirror) car show (see page 3),\" said Steven Johnson, general manager of Ovations Food Services, who came up with the idea for the event. \"Because it's going to be a high-end facility and it's going to be eco-friendly, it's got larger costs up front,\" said Tracey Greene, vice president of the Humane Society of Polk County. \"So right now we're doing many fund raisers and community outreach projects to bring in more dollars to be able to make this the best facility in Florida as quickly as possible.\"
