STAGE REVIEW SKITS TAKE SKEWER TO URBAN SILLINESS `UNITARD' TAKES SKETCH-COMEDY APPROACH TO HILARIOUS LEVEL
2002
\"Unitard,\" an off-off-Broadway hit now in Boston, is a hilarious and scathing attack on today's super-sophisticated, media- electrified urban culture. In a fast-paced relay of blackout solo routines, Mike Albo, Nora Burns, and David Ilku take aim at the pretentious, the ridiculous, and the plain annoying. These performers leave no target standing. An accomplished mimic with a comic style broader than Albo's, Ilku does a devastating impression of a British-accented scene ster holding court at a trendy nightclub, rattling off inspired non sequiturs on whatever crosses his mind. Ilku also has excellent routines, as the gruesomely fey \"Mad Flautist\" at a Renaissance Faire, as Jackie Chan doing a commercial for a K-Tel-type compilation of \"voguing\" dance hits, and as a buyer for the London department store Harrods who rings up Calvin Klein asking the designer to explain his latest creation - pre-dirtied jeans. From left: David Ilku, Nora Burns, and Mike Albo take aim at the pretentious, the ridiculous, and the plain annoying.

TROUPE TAKES A BRASH, COMIC LOOK AT NARCISSISM
2002
WEEKEND / STAGE REVIEW Unitard: Now More Than Ever Comedy revue written and performed by Mike Albo, Nora Burns, and David Ilku. Directed by James Byrne. Lights, Nathaniel Packard. Presented by the Theater Offensive. At: Boston Center for the Arts, through Sept. 28. 617-426-2787. Mike Albo is similarly inspired in another monologue, playing a guy at a gay disco whose smile hides his fangs. And David Ilku is the most gifted physical comedian, particularly his transformation into a lost-in-the-'70s Provincetown innkeeper talking to a hooker who'll be his partner's (and his) gift for their 25th-year commitment anniversary. What makes the skit is the American flag shirt, yellow shorts, brown socks, and sandals.
