Forest vegetation is a vital component of ecosystems, supporting biodiversity and providing ecological services. Its diversity is shaped by interrelated environmental factors. Belitung Island, with exceptional ecological features and rich biodiversity, offers great potential for sustainable tourism. This study analyzes forest vegetation diversity and ecosystem characteristics to support tourism planning. Research was conducted at 10 lowland forest sites using the quadrat transect method with purposive sampling. Vegetation parameters observed included importance value index, diversity, density, dominance, and evenness. Results identified 59 species from 35 families, consisting of 28.9% understorey, 37% saplings, 17% poles, and 21% trees. Schima wallichii had the highest number of individuals. Heatmap analysis showed species distribution across locations, with families Myrtaceae and Dipterocarpaceae exhibiting the widest spread, indicating adaptability. Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) revealed that factors such as pH, C/N ratio, Ca, P2O5, and soil texture influenced vegetation distribution. Overall, Belitung forests demonstrated high species diversity and richness, including unique species of ecological significance. These findings highlight the island’s strong potential for integrating biodiversity conservation into sustainable tourism planning, ensuring both ecological preservation and long-term development.

Objective. A bibliometric review of the scientific production in ecotourism in Latin America was carried out, with a focus on the contribution of Peru. Design/Methodology/Approach. Bibliometric techniques were combined with a content analysis approach to collect and analyze the literature on ecotourism in Latin America. Articles from 1992 to 2024 were collected using the Scopus database, and VOSviewer software was used to perform a bibliometric analysis. Results/Discussion. A total of 414 articles on ecotourism in Latin America were identified, with a diversity of thematic areas, including ecotourism and sustainable development; tourism, diseases, and dissemination; conservation and ecology; protected areas and marketing; and ecology and spatiotemporal analysis. The analysis revealed low collaboration between authors and the need to diversify the topics investigated in Peru. In addition, there has been an increase in the number of publications in recent years, indicating a growing interest in ecotourism research in the region. Conclusions. Scientific production in ecotourism in Latin America shows growth but with low collaboration and a need for diversification. In Peru, opportunities for improvement were identified, such as increasing research and promoting international collaboration to increase its visibility and impact.

2018
Rhinopoma microphyllum is a bat species that lives in a habitat covered by grove of trees and shrubs in the primary forest vegetation. These species is included in the IUCN Red List list with Least Concern (LC) status or at the least information. This study was to describe of R. microphyllum as a new record in the southern of Lombok, and to examine the parasites and microbes that infest it. The study was carried out in the developed ecotourism area of southern Lombok Island of NTB during February-April 2017. A modified net and quadrant for cave ceiling was used to collect bat sample. Ectoparasite collection was done by combing the bat's hair and the falling specimens were collected. The endoparasite examination was done by the flotation methods of intestinal contents, while microbial examination was done by collecting the microbes from oral cavity and feces. The results showed the discovery of R. microphyllum in two ecotourism development sites, The Buwun Cave and The Gale Gale Bangkang Cave Prabu Village, Central Lombok. The endoparasit examination found 4 species of endoparasit, 1 species of Coccidia sp, 2 species of Trematodes from Lecithodendridae Family (Prosthodendrium sp and Acanthatrium sp) and 1 unidentified Nematode specimen. The ectoparasite examination found only 1 species, Ischnopsyllus hexactenus (The long Eared Bat Flea), and the microbes found from oral cavity analysis are the Gram positive Coccus (Stphylococcus aureus) and faecal analysis are the Coccobacil Gram negative (Providensia penneri).

Public space regeneration strategies: The case of salou
2017
Salou, which is one of the many highly specialized tourist resorts located on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, is a hundred kilometres south of Barcelona. Within its narrow boundaries of 1.481 ha, Salou hosts 7.4 million overnight stays per year and is home to 52 hotels. A ratio which ranks Salou amongst the tenth most visited municipalities in Spain [1]. Distance from Salou’s historical town centre, the area of Carles Buigas Avenue (CB) emerges as being the heart of the municipality’s tourism and leisure industry. Salou developed, as did so many other Spanish coastal touristic locations, during the sixties and seventies as a consequence of the increasing demand for sun and beach destinations amongst the European and Spanish middle classes. Unfortunately, the “ageing” of this built up area clamours for close attention today. The visible physical degradation of the property is becoming a cause for concern and preoccupation amongst the main property owners and investors: public administration, hotel managers, shopkeepers and neighbours. Hotels emerge as the key problem within the set physical boundaries of this study. They occupy approximately 50% of the total land surface, 28 out of a total of 52 hotels within the town being concentrated in that area. This accumulation of hotels also breaks the particularity of the predominance of second residences which is so customary along the Spanish Coast. This paper delves into the data and proposals obtained from analysing the public space of the CB area. Similarly, as a consequence of the previous analysis, a set of proposals for intervention are also presented. The proposals are conceived to be developed within different time scales, in response to political and social willingness and economic capacity. The objective of the work is to induce an urban and tourism paradigm shift in the area, thus facilitating the emergence of a new tourism model. Solutions are urgently needed to provide specific answers to a particular scenario, which has similitudes to those of other Mediterranean Coastal Developments specialized in tourism activities, which too, after being operative for more than forty years, are suffering from deterioration or abandonment. Despite it still being an open process, the study understands that due to the complexity of the committed task and the scale of the area, the goal will require the active commitment and collaboration of the property owners (administration, hotel managers, investors and neighbours).
