Numerical Study on the Cavitation Flow and Its Effect on the Structural Integrity of Multi-Stage Orifice

Flow leakage due to cavitation erosion occurred at the socket welding part downstream of the multi-stage orifice installed in the auxiliary feedwater (AFW) pump recirculation line of the domestic nuclear power plant (NPP). To assess the adequacy of the changed operating flow rate proposed by a domestic NPP operator as the corrective measure concerning the flow leakage in the AFW pump recirculation line, the pattern of the cavitation flow in the eight-stage orifice and the connecting pipe depending on the magnitude of the operating flow rate was predicted by using ANSYS CFX R19.1. Additionally, using ANSYS Mechanical, the structural analysis was conducted under the same operating flow rate condition used for the flow analysis, and the structural integrity was evaluated for the allowable stress. Based on the flow analysis results, it was found that the operating flow rate was the main factor to influence the cavitation behavior inside the multi-stage orifice, and cavitation flow still happened even in the vicinity of the corrected operating flow rate, so it should be necessary to fundamentally review the adequacy of the multi-stage orifice design. On the other hand, the geometric dimensions and arrangement of orifice hole position at the individual stage of the multi-stage orifice may have a significant influence on the characteristics of pressure drop and flow patterns (including cavitation). Therefore, these effects were examined by simulating an analysis model in which the hole diameter of the eighth-stage orifice was changed under the design flow rate condition. As a result of flow analysis, it was found that reducing the hole diameter in the eighth stage orifice resulted in increasing the pressure drop. In relation to the structural integrity of the eight-stage orifice and the connecting pipe, it was found that its integrity could be maintained under the design and operating flow rate conditions.

Bayesian Inference of Cavitation Model Coefficients and Uncertainty Quantification of a Venturi Flow Simulation

In the present work, uncertainty quantification of a venturi tube simulation with the cavitating flow is conducted based on Bayesian inference and point-collocation nonintrusive polynomial chaos (PC-NIPC). A Zwart–Gerber–Belamri (ZGB) cavitation model and RNG k-ε turbulence model are adopted to simulate the cavitating flow in the venturi tube using ANSYS Fluent, and the simulation results, with void fractions and velocity profiles, are validated with experimental data. A grid convergence index (GCI) based on the SLS-GCI method is investigated for the cavitation area, and the uncertainty error (UG) is estimated as 1.12 × 10−5. First, for uncertainty quantification of the venturi flow simulation, the ZGB cavitation model coefficients are calibrated with an experimental void fraction as observation data, and posterior distributions of the four model coefficients are obtained using MCMC. Second, based on the calibrated model coefficients, the forward problem with two random inputs, an inlet velocity, and wall roughness, is conducted using PC-NIPC for the surrogate model. The quantities of interest are set to the cavitation area and the profile of the velocity and void fraction. It is confirmed that the wall roughness with a Sobol index of 0.72 has a more significant effect on the uncertainty of the cavitating flow simulation than the inlet velocity of 0.52.

A prototype of a DSP-based instrument for in-service transmitter power measurements is presented. The instrument implements a signal-selective algorithm for power measurements that is suitable for use in wireless environments, where possible uncontrolled interfering sources are present in the radio channel and are overlapped to the signal emitted by the transmitter under test, possibly in both time and frequency domain. The measurement method exploits the principles of cyclic spectral analysis, which are briefly recalled in the paper. Potentialities, as well as limitations of the prototype use are discussed, and the results of experiments with both modulated and unmodulated interfering sources are presented.

Estimation of bridge static response and vehicle weights by frequency response analysis

A methodology is developed to more accurately estimate the static response of bridges due to moving vehicles. The method can also be used to predict dynamic responses induced by moving vehicles using weigh-in-motion (WIM) techniques. Historically, WIM is a well-developed technology used in highway research, since it has the advantage of allowing for the stealthy automatic collection of weight data for heavy trucks. However, the lack of accuracy in determining the dynamic effect in bridges has limited the potential for its use in estimating the fatigue life of bridge structures and their components. The method developed herein amends the current WIM procedures by filtering the dynamic responses accurately using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). Example applications of the proposed method are shown by using computer-generated data. The method is fast and improves the predicted truck weight up to 5% of the actual weight, as compared to errors up to 10% using the current WIM methods.

Emotional and Rational Components in Software Testing Service Evaluation: Antecedents and Impacts

This research investigates how individual emotional and rational components of software testing service evaluations impact behavioral intentions associated with the software testing service, and how specific, theory-driven service characteristics (complexity, proximity, and output specificity) impact the emotional and rational components of the software testing service evaluation. A controlled experiment is used, and the results indicate that (1) both emotional and rational components of software testing service evaluation have significant impacts on behavioral intentions associated with the software testing service, (2) the specificity of testing service output impacts both the emotional and rational evaluations of the software testing service, (3) the complexity of the testing service task only influences the emotional component, and (4) the proximity between the testing service provider and recipient has no significant impact on the emotional evaluation of the service.

South Africa has been rated as having the most severe HIV epidemic in the world since it has one of the largest populations of people living with HIV (PLHIV). KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is the epicentre of the HIV epidemic. The HIV test and treat services in the public health sector are critical to managing the epidemic and responding to the increase in HIV infections. The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health (DOH) commissioned a review of the provision of HIV testing services in the province and aimed to investigate its impact on the HIV positivity rate over a ten-year period. The study was an ecological study design using data extracted from the Department's District Health Information System (DHIS). Descriptive analysis was conducted in addition to ANOVA and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study have shown that the total number of HIV tests conducted over the ten-year period in the province has increased with the highest number of HIV tests being conducted in the 2018/2019 MTEF year. ANOVA analysis indicates that there was a statistically significant difference in the total number of HIV tests conducted and the number of HIV tests per 100 000 population across the province's 11 districts (p < 0.001). Statistically significant differences were observed in the HIV testing rate and in the HIV positivity rate over the period (p < 0.001). Results from multiple regression analysis showed that the HIV testing rate per 100 000 population was the strongest predictor of the HIV positivity rate. HIV positivity among clients correlated negatively with the number of HIV tests conducted per 100 000 population (r = −0.823; p < 0.001) and the HIV testing rate (r = −0.324; p < 0.01). This study has found that HIV testing could have an impact on reducing the positivity rate of HIV in the province and is therefore an effective strategy in curbing the HIV epidemic. The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health should ensure that strategies for implementing and maintaining HIV testing and treating services should continue at an accelerated rate in order to achieve the first 95 of the UNAIDS 2025 SDG target.

These days continual demands on loosely coupled systems have web service gives basic necessities to deliver resolution that are adaptable and sufficient to be work at runtime for maintaining the high quality of the system. One of the basic techniques to evaluate the quality of such systems is through testing. Due to the rapid popularization of web service, which is progressing and continuously increasing, testing of web service has become a basic necessity to maintain high quality of web service. The testing of the performance of Web service based applications is attracting extensive attention. In order to evaluate the performance of web services, it is essential to evaluate the QoS (Quality of Service) attributes such as interoperability, reusability, auditability, maintainability, accuracy and performance to improve the quality of service. The purpose of this study is to introduce the systematic literature review of web services testing techniques to evaluate the QoS attributes to make the testing technique better. With the intention of better testing quality in web services, this systematic literature review intends to evaluate what QoS parameters are necessary to provide better quality assurance. The focus of systematic literature is also to make sure that quality of testing can be encouraged for the present and future. Consequently, the main attention and motivation of the study is to provide an overview of recent research efforts of web service testing techniques from the research community. Each testing technique in web services has identified apparent standards, benefits, and restrictions. This systemic literature review provides a different testing resolution to industry to decide which testing technique is the most efficient and effective with the testing assignment agenda with available resources. As for the significance, it can be said that web service testing technique are still broadly open for improvements.

Gender differences in HIV testing service visits and its related factors among adults: a cross-sectional study in Homa Bay, Kenya

at least 90% of people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) were expected to know their HIV status by 2020. However, only 84% are aware of their status. This study determined the frequency of HIV testing services visits (HTS) and its related factors to HTS visits among adults in Homa Bay County, Kenya.
this was a cross-sectional study. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected. A backward stepwise logistic regression analysis was conducted for quantitative data by gender. Qualitative data were thematically categorised into factors of HTS visits by gender.
a total of 645 adults participated in quantitative survey and 17 in qualitative survey. There were no gender differences in the frequency of HTS visits (males=56.3%; females= 58.7%, P=0.785). The frequency of visits was however significantly different between the rural-based (Rachuonyo North=87.5%; Ndhiwa=58.7%) and urban-based (Homa Bay Town=36.8%) facilities at P<0.001. In males, HTS visits were positively associated with ´being in Protestant church´, ´partner´s attitude´, and ´being accompanied by a friend to HTS´. ´Distance to HTS´ was negatively associated with HTS visits in males. For females, 'sexual intercourse in the past 2-5 months´ was positively associated with HTS visits. ´Being in a polygamous marriage´, ´not married´, ´community HIV testing´, and ´affordability of transport cost to HTS centre´ were negatively associated with HTS visits.
there were no gender differences in the frequency of HTS visits. Social position for males and position in the family for females are suggested as the factors influencing HTS visits in Homa Bay County.
