Aproximación al estudio de la prensa diaria mexicana
El presente estudio se ha derivado de un trabajo de investigación más amplio, realizado entre 1971 y 1974, cuyo objetivo principal fue el de sistematizar, por un lado, las características peculiares de la prensa diaria mexicana y, por otro, las de aquella información que en nuestro medio universitario, primordialmente, y en otras escuelas de periodismo del país ha sido tomada como base teórica para la formación de los periodistas profesionales.
Watchdogging Populism
ABSTRACT – The article aims to unpack the press reporting of far-right populism invested in its journalistic roles, as manifested in the watchdog performance by the leading Portuguese newsmagazine Visão in a series of feature articles on the emergent Chega party. Drawing on an original combination of methodologies comprising surveys, rhetorical analysis, and qualitative interviewing, it concludes that Visão adopts an interventionist mode of the watchdog role in the reporting. It also validates the need to integrate a negotiative assessment of the role orientation and reporting practice to fill both the general ideal-practice gap of the journalistic roles and the specific ideal-performance of the watchdog role.   RESUMO – Este artigo visa desvendar a cobertura jornalística do populismo de extrema-direita conforme manifesto na forma como a revista portuguesa de referência Visão desempenha o papel de cão de guarda (watchdog) em uma série de reportagens sobre o emergente partido Chega. Baseado em uma combinação original de metodologias que integram inquéritos, análise retórica e entrevista qualitativa, conclui que Visão adotou preferencialmente o modo de cão de guarda intervencionista (interventionist watchdog) no tratamento noticioso. Valida igualmente a necessidade de integrar uma avaliação negociada dos papéis ideais jornalísticos com a realidade da produção informativa com vista a preencher os hiatos tanto do ideal-praxis em torno dos papéis jornalísticos em geral, como, da dicotomia ideal-desempenho em termos do papel específico de cão de guarda.   RESUMEN – Este artículo tiene como objetivo principal dar a conocer la cobertura periodística del populismo de extrema derecha en Portugal, en concreto, respecto al modo en que la revista portuguesa de referencia Visão desempeña el papel de perro guardián (watchdog) en una serie de publicaciones centradas en el emergente partido Chega. A partir de una combinación original de metodologías que integran encuestas, análisis retórico y entrevista cualitativa, encontramos que Visão adopta un rol de perro guardián intervencionista (interventionism wathdog) en su tratamiento informativo. Además, los resultados muestran la necesidad de integrar al estudio de la orientación del rol de los periodistas al de su práctica de reportar; haciendo posible, de este modo, visibilizar la brecha existente entre la práctica-ideal de los roles periodistas en general y del desempeño-ideal específico del rol de watchdog.
Cara y cruz de un periodista mexicano
Tenía tres años de edad Felix Fulgencio Palavicini, cuando el general Porfirio Díaz preparaba su primera reelección a la presidencia de la República. Estudio para ingeniero topógrafo, pero la mayor parte de su vida, Palavicini trabajó como periodista y político, dicotomía frecuente en su época. Desde joven se interesó por los problemas que laceraban al país, bajo los designios del oaxaqueño Díaz.
Retos para la educación del futuro periodista
La incertidumbre que rodea a la posibilidad de que el periodismo “tradicional” desaparezca es parte de la transformación que la movilidad social empuja a todos los actores. Es así que el papel que el periodista jugará en un futuro cercano tiene que transformarse y la universidad debe adaptarse a ello. A las instituciones educativas les corresponde proveer de las herramientas necesarias para que el profesional de la nueva época pueda usar todos los elementos que tenga a su alcance y suministrar la información requerida y solicitada por el público. El objetivo de esta investigación es tratar de determinar cuáles deben ser los parámetros que delinean la figura próximo profesional del Periodismo y responder a las demandas que requieren los medios de información.
Anniversary reactions among journalists covering terror: stress reactions and well-being 10 years after the terror in Norway
Background: Covering terror and catastrophes can be traumatic for journalists, potentially resulting in long-term impairment. This study investigated 10-year anniversary reactions among Norwegian journalists who covered the Oslo/Utöya terror incident in Norway, 2011. Objective: The study aimed to investigate whether level of traumatic exposure and support actions in 2011 were related to anniversary reactions and current psychological well-being in 2021. It also explored if magnitude of anniversary reactions was related to level of current well-being. Method: A cross-sectional survey was sent to journalists who still work within journalism, eight weeks after the 10-year anniversary (N = 200). Participants reported retrospectively on trauma exposure, ethical dilemmas and social support in 2011, as predictors, and attitude to media anniversary coverage, anniversary-related stress, and well-being, as outcome variables. Results: More ethical dilemmas in 2011 (r = .295, p < .001) were related to a larger degree of anniversary-related stress in 2021. Having received less workplace social support in 2011 was related to more stress reactions (r = −.196, p < .05), while the magnitude of overall traumatic exposure in 2011 was not related to stress. Social support also predicted a higher level of current well-being in 2021 (r = .381, p < .001). More severe anniversary-related stress symptoms were significantly associated with decreased level of current well-being (r = −.259, p < .001). Conclusion: Journalists can experience lasting consequences from demanding experiences at work, including fluctuating stress symptoms during incident anniversaries. It is crucial for both journalists and newsrooms to recognize and be aware of the potential impact of anniversaries on the well-being of those involved in the initial coverage. In a cross-sectional study carried out in 2021, journalists who had faced more ethical dilemmas while covering terror in 2011 had more anniversary-related stress symptoms in 2021. A larger magnitude of overall traumatic exposure in 2011 was not related to stress reactions ten years later. Journalists who had received more workplace social support in 2011 had lower stress levels in 2021. Journalists who had received more support in 2011 had higher levels of current well-being in 2021. Journalists with lower levels of anniversary-related stress symptoms had higher current well-being.
Post-traumatic stress, personal risk and post-traumatic growth among UK journalists
Background: Journalists covering traumatic news events can develop symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, they may also experience perceived post-traumatic growth (PTG). The outcome may be affected by whether work-related traumatic stress has a degree of personal risk. Objective: To investigate the relationship between PTSD symptoms and PTG among journalists who experienced work-related trauma and to examine whether positive associations would exist between exposure to personal risk and PTG. Method: A web-based survey measuring post-traumatic stress symptoms and post-traumatic growth was completed by print and broadcast journalists (N = 69) working for UK-based media organizations. An open-ended question asked participants how media organizations can help to promote growth after work-related trauma. Results: The findings show a significant relationship between PTSD symptoms and PTG (p = 0.04). Journalists working in war-zones had significantly more PTSD symptoms (p < .001) and PTG scores (p < .001) than those who did not. Journalists who described their worst, work-related trauma as having a degree of personal, life-threatening risk, also reported higher levels of PTG than those who did not (p < .001). This was consistent across all PTG subscales. Conclusions: This study, the first to examine PTSD symptoms, personal risk and post-traumatic growth within journalists, suggests those working in conflict areas experience significantly higher levels of post-traumatic stress and post-traumatic growth, than those who do not. Those who experience personal risk also had high PTG levels. Media companies can help develop PTG by recognizing when personal risk plays a role in covering demanding assignments. Participants suggested organizations also needed to allow sufficient time for reflection and meaning-making for all those working in hostile environments. * This is the first study examining PTSD and post-traumatic growth (PTG) in UK journalists experiencing work-related trauma with personal risk. * Those in war zones showed more PTSD symptoms and higher PTG. * Journalists called for time and support to reflect after traumatic events.
PERIODISMO COMPUTACIONAL: EVOLUCION, CASOS Y HERRAMIENTAS
El periodismo computacional ha irrumpido con fuerza en el intenso panorama de las innovaciones periodísticas, debido a su gran potencial de impacto en las redacciones. Dada la reciente implantación de esta especialidad, todavía en fase experimental en las redacciones que lo han incorporado, en este trabajo presentamos un resultado de tipo exploratorio sobre el periodismo computacional, a la vez que lo relacionamos con variaciones bien implantadas del periodismo, como el periodismo de datos. El trabajo se ha realizado a partir de la revisión bibliográfica y de los principales informes sobre esta materia, así como a partir de una serie de estudios de caso. Los resultados pueden ayudar tanto a enfocar nuevas investigaciones en este campo, como a completar el panorama de la innovación para profesionales e investigadores del sector que necesiten disponer de una visión global del impacto que puede alcanzar el periodismo computacional.
Cuando la innovación docente despierta vocaciones. Efectos del aprendizaje colaborativo en estudiantes universitarios de Comunicación Organizacional
La Universidad del siglo XXI apuesta por fomentar la empleabilidad de sus alumnos y para ello potencia el desarrollo de competencias profesionales y de habilidades sociales. A través de la innovación docente y de las metodologías activas es posible implicar al alumno y formarle en el buen hacer; responsabilidad indispensable en el ejercicio profesional de la Comunicación Organizacional, una especialidad caracterizada por tender puentes comunicativos y de confianza entre la organización y sus públicos. Este artículo presenta un doble objetivo, por un lado sistematizar las experiencias derivadas del Proyecto de Innovación Docente “Hazte donante” que, basándose en el aprendizaje colaborativo, involucra  a los alumnos en la creación una campaña de concienciación transmedia para atraer a jóvenes donantes de sangre. Y por otro lado, se comprueba la evolución de los intereses de los participantes (n=80) respecto de la materia y su satisfacción con el proyecto y la metodología empleada. Para alcanzar tales objetivos se recurre a la observación participante, el diario de campo y la encuesta. El estudio demuestra las posibilidades del aprendizaje colaborativo por proyectos para afianzar contenidos, simular el ejercicio profesional y despertar vocaciones.
