Earth-Bodies as Re-Existence: Ana Mendieta's Siluetas Beyond the Limits of Ecofeminism
This article engages the earth-body, or Silueta (Silhouette) (1973–80), works of Cuban-American artist Ana Mendieta to signal the Western limits of ecofeminist discourses and imagine a human-earthly relation beyond them. Ecofeminist thought has gained traction in feminist studies, especially given new materialist interventions which mark its ability to think a non-anthropocentric feminism in a time of environmental crisis. I recognize the potential of ecofeminism, and explore the ways it informed Mendieta's practice. Yet, drawing on decolonial feminist theory, I argue that a global South context and the \"coloniality of [her] being\" (Maldonaldo-Torres 2007) shifted Mendieta's engagement with the ecofeminist project. I read Mendieta as enacting an \"aesthetics of re-existence\" (Alban Achinte 2013) in response to a dehumanizing colonial context, using her art to \"re-member\" (Anzaldúa 2015) the negated dimensions of her existence in the Americas. Doing so reveals a persistent Western humanist lens that underwrites mainstream ecofeminist understandings of human-earthly relation, and also thinks with the African and Indigenous cosmologies Mendieta incorporated into her Siluetas about alternative modes of human relation to the earth. As Mendieta re-membered her own colonized being through her art, she helps us re-member ecofeminism's relation to the earth.
Processes of Afrobetization and Literacy of (Re)Existences in the Education of Young and Adult

The paper discusses the themes of education and teaching-learning processes throughout life, taking as a cutout, racial relations in the contexts of Youth and Adult Education (EJA) in Brazil, considering what determines Law 10,639/03. This is an exploratory-descriptive study, with a mixed approach that associates the analysis of indicators, bibliographic research and the document al., as well as data from two experiences in the EJA. The results reveal that the EJA because it is constituted mainly by blacks and blacks, can be understood as an affirmative action, which seeks to correct distortions and repair historical injustices. It points out as a pedagogical proposal for teaching and meaningful learning the association between afrobetization and literacies of (re) existences.
Memória e transformação: o papel das narrativas na criação artística do Coletivo Estopô Balaio
Narrar um facto ou um acontecimento vivenciado, é refazê-lo dentro de si, reconstruindo caminhos e elevando-o a uma nova perspectiva. Quando essa narração acontece no contexto da prática artística, abrem-se possibilidades para reconfigurar o passado, criar conexões com o presente e impulsionar o futuro através desta ação. Quando a memória individual é refeita tendo a arte teatral enquanto meio ativador, somos capazes de posicioná-la no contexto da memória coletiva, nos inserindo assim, enquanto sujeitos de uma história partilhada. Desta maneira, o artigo presente tem como intenção refletir sobre o trabalho artístico desenvolvido pelo Coletivo Estopô Balaio, grupo teatral residente no bairro do Jardim Romano, na cidade de São Paulo - Brasil. Com mais de 10 anos de atuação no território situado no extremo leste da capital paulista, seus processos criativos são permeados pelas memórias e histórias de vida dos moradores da região, produzindo desta forma novos discursos e reforçando laços identitários entre os moradores e o seu bairro. A intenção deste trabalho é ressaltar a importância fundamental das artes, principalmente aquelas ancoradas nas práticas artísticas comunitárias, para a manutenção e preservação de narrativas alternativas à contínua tendência de homogeneização dos saberes e dos modos de vida. Para isso, serão utilizados como suportes teóricos, a análise da performance inscrita sob o signo da Oralitura de Leda Maria Martins e da Escrevivência de Conceição Evaristo, além do conceito de Práticas criativas de re-existência cunhado por Adolfo Achinte.
“Nosotros no vamos a dejar al Río”: re-existencias de maestras/os indígenas en la lucha por los commons en el norte del Cauca, Colombia
Con el objetivo de analizar las tensiones ontológicas que enfrenta la Educación Propia y las prácticas de re-existencia de las/os maestras/os indígenas frente a grupos de poder de la región norte del Cauca, Colombia, se hace, primero, una lectura cartografiada de las tensiones político-ontológicas del territorio. Posteriormente, se presentan los mecanismos de lucha que realizan las/os maestras/os indígenas por la prevalencia de las ontologías y proyectos de vida de los pueblos. Con este fin, se define el marco referencial desde los aportes de pedagogías otras, anticoloniales y anticapitalistas, además de contribuciones que surgen epistemológica y políticamente desde el giro decolonial, y algunos otros desde la pedagogía crítica. Los datos fueron recabados a través del método etnográfico en una estancia prolongada en el departamento del Cauca, en el año 2017, y fueron sistematizados a través del método propuesto por Bertely (2000) sobre la etnografía educativa.
Artivismo, (des)lugarización y re-existencia. Memorias visuales del conflicto armado en Colombia, 2008-2016
Objetivo: analizar las representaciones sobre el conflicto armado colombiano que se evidencian en las obras de tres artistas visuales, en el periodo 2008-2016, así como las relaciones de estas con la configuración de determinados regímenes de la mirada en el despliegue de memorias del pasado reciente. Este objeto de estudio parte de reconocer que, desde el albor de la década del 2000, surgió un giro cultural y estético a través de prácticas artísticas performativas que privilegia la interrelación entre artistas y víctimas, el conocimiento del territorio, la reparación simbólica y la co-creación con comunidades afectadas por la guerra. Metodología: se empleó un análisis visual que abordó las dimensiones sintáctica, semántica y pragmática de los acontecimientos visuales tramitados a través de las obras; este permitió develar la composición, los significados y las condiciones de producción y divulgación de estas narrativas. Se empleó también una matriz inductiva que permitió triangular datos de las piezas visuales, así como algunas perspectivas teóricas e interpretaciones propias, a partir de campos semánticos emergentes. Originalidad: esta investigación abordó fuentes del arte visual que exploran lenguajes indexicales y evocativos en la construcción de la mirada, como aproximación a la historia reciente del conflicto armado. Conclusiones: en primer lugar, se evidencian representaciones que se enmarcan en un artivismo memorial cuya principal función es la tramitación del duelo frente a la desaparición forzada, así como el uso de recursos metonímicos; en segundo lugar, sobresalen narrativas visuales que develan la (des)lugarización de la escuela rural, situación que corrobora la profanación de sus bases comunitarias; por último, surgen estéticas de la re-existencia que se manifiestan en procesos de co-creación, conducentes a nuevas formas de distribución de lo sensible.
On decolonizing design
Design is regarded in the article as an ontological instrument that is able to transform the social and cultural reality, and model human experience, subjectivity and environment. I focus on the intersections between Tony Fry's understanding of ontological design and the decolonial interpretation of modernity/coloniality as an overall design determining relation between the world, the things and the humans. The article attempts to draw a division between the positive (re-existent) and negative (defuturing) ontological designs. It addresses the coloniality of design that is control and disciplining of our perception and interpretation of the world, of other beings and things according to certain legitimized principles. The coloniality of design has accompanied the predominant modern universalist utopias such as Marxism or Liberalism and has been resisted internally and externally through various manifestations of border thinking and existence. I analyze Fry's concept of defuturing in relation to the decolonial concept of pluriversality. This allows to address in more detail the dynamic correlational principle as central to decolonial ontological design. Among specific decolonial tools of positive ontological design I focus on Sumak Kawsay, Earth Democracy, and a few more specific initiatives originating in the indigenous social movements from Eurasian borderlands. The article also addresses decolonizing of the affective sphere as ground for a positive ontological design. Finally I argue for the necessity of provincializing the Western/Northern design and allowing the decolonial design in the Global South develop its positive border \"both and\" positionality, a negotiating transcultural stance starting from the local geopolitics and corpo-politics put into dialogue and dispute with the modern/colonial defuturing design premises.
Epistemología del sur y Movimientos Sociales de Abya Yala en Re-existencia territorial
El presente artículo tiene como objetivo presentar, en el corpus de la epistemología del sur, revisada desde la perspectiva de los pueblos del sur global, una estructura válida para el estudio y entendimiento de los movimientos sociales en re-existencia territorial de Abya Yala. La metodología esta basada en la propia estructura de la epistemología del sur, en las herramientas constituidas por la hermenéutica diatópica, la dialógica crítica y la construcción solidaria del conocimiento. Como resultado se presenta el discurso desde los pueblos originarios en re-existencia como ejercicio de vencimiento de la producción de las ausencias y superación de la epistemología de la ceguera del pensamiento moderno colonial.  En conclusión, se evidencia que, aun cuando los principales enunciados de la epistemología del sur corresponden al mundo académico, este se alimentó principalmente de los saberes-sentires-pensares de los pueblos en re-existencia del Sur Global, y que se hace urgente devolverles esa voz central en los procesos de revalidación y valoración de sus luchas.
Juan Montaño Escobar, el jazzman de los 8 minutos 46 segundos de Black Lives Matter
En este ensayo se analiza la respuesta literaria del ecuatoriano Juan Montaño Escobar al movimiento Black Lives Matter y a la trágica muerte de George F. Floyd, Jr. el 25 de mayo del 2020. Más que una protesta o denuncia, Montaño presenta una declaración de apropiación colectiva de esos 8 minutos 46 segundos robados, para retomarlos como un acto de (re)existencia y resignificación, precisamente porque Black Lives Matter y porque el movimiento resalta el racismo sistémico que define la historia de las Américas.
Geographies of Violence and Experiences of Re-Existence. The Case of Buenaventura, Colombia, 2005-2015
This article analyzes how, in the context of Buenaventura crossed by a variety of violence between 2005 and 2015, some collectives and organizing platforms, mostly composed of young people and women, managed to defend life and imagine the future. It centers on contemporary critical perspectives of social theory and on the construction of two analytical categories: re-existence and geographies of violence. The methodological design included a qualitative work of observation in situ, mapping cases, analyzing context and interviews with leaders and local protagonists. This research proposes a reading of the context of Buenaventura as a paradoxical territory where armed orders and social and economic regimes of violence are interwoven, which are challenged and reinvented by practices of re-existence through political, creative and everyday daily repertoires.
Re-existências
Graças às políticas de ações afirmativas com reserva de vagas nas universidades públicas brasileiras vivemos atualmente um período de visibilidade de negros/as, indígenas, pessoas de baixa renda, quilombolas, populações LGBTT₊, dentre outras. Essas presenças diversas no contexto universitário nos convidam ao exercício reflexivo sobre o ser/fazer universidade. Ao concluir nossas formações em nível superior, nos encontramos nas lutas cotidianas de buscar oportunidades profissionais que abarquem esses/as sujeitos/as em um sistema capital que continua estruturado por várias perspectivas opressivas, como o racismo e o sexismo. Assim, a partir das propostas teóricas de Alberto Guerreiro Ramos sobre a relação entre o negro-tema e o negro-vida e do amor como prática de liberdade de bell hooks, este artigo pretende tecer algumas grafias de re-existências diante da participação de uma antropóloga negra em concursos públicos para o cargo de magistério superior em universidade pública do sul do Brasil. Thanks to af firmative action policies which guarantee vacancies in Brazilian public universities, we are currently experiencing a period of visibility of black, indigenous, low income, quilombolas, and LGBTTQIA populations, among others. These diverse presences within the university context invite us to put into practice the reflexive exercise of being/doing university. Once we finish our higherlevel studies, we find ourselves in a daily struggle to seek professional opportunities that embrace these specific subjects, in a capital system that continues to be structured by various oppressive perspectives such racism and sexism. The article is based on the theoretical assumptions of Alberto Guerreiro Ramos on the relationship between the black-theme and the black-life, and also on bell hooks notion of love as a practice of freedom from bell hooks. It aims to comment on some lines of re-existences in face of the participation of a black female anthropologist in public tenders applying for positions of higher education teaching at a public university in the south of Brazil.
