تنبع أهمية هذا الكتاب من مؤلفه الذي يعد أحد أبرز مؤرخي نجد إلى جانب أنه يبرز العناية التي تلقاها الخيل العربية الأصيلة من حكام الدولة السعودية واهتمامهم بها استجابة للأحاديث النبوية الكريمة التي تحث على ذلك وهذا الكتاب ألفه ابن بشر بطلب من الإمام فيصل بن تركي رحمه الله، وجعله في ثمانية أبواب ولم يصلنا منه إلا المقدمة والباب الأول حيث تناول فيهما المؤلف سبب تأليف هذا الكتاب. ثم شرع في ذكر فضل الخيل، وما ورد فيها من أحاديث، ثم تحدث في فصل مستقل عما ورد في شؤم الفرس والمرأة والدار.
