رواية \"الأبله\" حكاية الأمير ميشكين الذي يعود إلى روسيا بعد أن تماثل للشفاء في سويسرا ويستطيع في أول يوم له في بطرسبرج أن يأسر قلب كل من يلتقي به بطيبته الطفولية وبساطته الآسرة ويحاول دوستويفسكي في هذه الرواية أن يرسم صورة الرجل المثالي المسيح الروسي كما تصوره له محاولا أن يحقق السعادة لأعدائه وأصدقائه على حد سواء لكن الرجل الذي يجد في الألم تطهيرا هل يستطيع رجل مثل هذا أن يعيش وسط شرور المجتمع؟ هل ستمكنه براءته الطفولية أن يمسح دموع العناء والشقاء من الآخرين.
