يقدم الكتاب قراءة تاريخية وتحليلية مطولة، تمر بثلاث مراحل، هي مرحلة ماقبل صعود الرفاه، ثم مرحلة صعود الرفاه، ثم بزوغ حزب العدالة والتنمية بعد الانشقاق الحادث في الرفاه، حتى أداء عبد الله غول القسم، ليصبح الرئيس الحادي عشر لتركيا، في مناسبة اعتبرت تاريخية؛ بسبب ماضيه في تيارات الإسلام السياسي وتعهد غول بعد أداء القسم، بأن يحافظ على المبادئ العلمانية الخاصة بالجمهورية، وأن يكون رئيسا محايدا للدولة، وأنه سيحترم حقوق الإنسان وحرية التعبير وسيكون ضد التمييز على أي أساس، مؤكدا أن العلمانية هي واحدة من المبادئ الرئيسية للجمهورية التركية وهي شرط مسبق للسلام الاجتماعي، بقدر ما هي نموذج ليبرالي، للتعايش مع أنماط مختلفة من طرق العيش.
