كتاب (الكتب الممنوعة) هو من أهم وأبرز المؤلفات التي تتبعت تاريخ الرقابة الأوروبية منذ اختراع المطبعة وكيف نمت الرقابة وسيطرت عليها الكنيسة، ثم بدأ الصراع الديني والعلماني حول حرية النشر، حتى الثورة الفرنسية عندما أقرت حرية النشر في (إعلان حقوق الإنسان والمواطن) ويتناول الكتاب الكثير من القصص المشوقة والتي تلمس واقعنا إلى حد كبير، حيث يحكي لنا عن الكتاب والناشرون الذين كانوا يغيرون أغلفة بعض الكتب هروبا من الرقابة ويحكي لنا الكثير من الكتاب الذين قتلوا من أجل الكلمة وكيف كان بعض الناشرين يلجئون إلى أسماء وهمية لكتب محظورة، كما لا يغفل أن يفسر لنا سر حظر كل كتاب من الكتب التي ذكرها وما نال صاحبها عندما أقدم على كتابتها.
