يتناول الكتاب يوميات رحلة حجية فريدة تنتمي إلى القرن التاسع عشر، قام صاحبها، الغيغائي بها في أوساط شهر شعبان من سنة 1857 واستمرت 9 أشهر، وكان منطلقه من مدينة مراكش عبر الصويرة فطنجة التي غادرها على ظهر سفينة تجارية في اتجاه جبل طارق ثم جزيرة مالطة فمصر عبر بوابة الإسكندرية، وقد نالت مصر نصيب الأسد من السرد والوصف باعتبار مكانتها المهمة لدى الرحالة المغاربة.
