يتناول الكتاب العديد من القضايا السياسية والثقافية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والمعرفية غير المرتبطة بملاحقة الأحداث الجارية والوقائع السريعة حيث أن الكتاب يصلح للقراءة في أزمنة وأمكنة متباعدة ومتغيرة كما يستعرض المؤلف من خلال الكتاب تنوعا في أسلوب الكتابة حيث أدرك الكاتب منذ وقت مبكر الفارق بين كتابة سيارة معروضة للعامة وأخرى مكانها قاعات الدرس وسيمنارات العلم وبين كتابة أدبية تفيض بالبلاغة والمحسنات البديعية وبين لغة العلم التي يجب أن تكون محددة وواضحة ومنضبطة بقدر الاستطاعة يقول الكاتب في مقدمة كتابه أن كثير من هذه الأفكار كانت ومضات برقت في ذهني فانشغلت بها أقلبها على جوانبها حتى نضجت فوضعتها على الورق وبعضها كان استجابة لمقتضيات واقع يتجدد لكنها لم تتعامل مع هذا الأمر من زاوية التعليق الصحفي الطارئ والعابر والسريع إنما حاولت أن أبحث دوما عن الجوانب الخفية والمسكوت عنها فأجلى غامضها وأشرح مختصره.
