تعد رواية \"مسرى الغرانيق في مدن العقيق\" من الروايات التشويقية ؛ حيث تنقلك بين عوالم وثقافات متغيرة وعبر أزمنة متعددة، حيث تدور احداث الكتاب عن مزيد الحنفي النجدي نفسه، الذي هو محض تاجر كتب في زمن الفتنة والاحتراب وشهوة إحراق المدونات والمخطوطات وتطهير الذنوب بجمرها. تاجر كتب قد تكون هذه صنعتي حقا، أو لربما أستتر خلفها بمنجى من الريبة والشك بين مسافري قافلة العطور المتجهة من بغداد إلى القدس، من بغداد إلى القدس فالقاهرة ثم قيروان فالأندلس يسافر مزيد الحنفي من وسط جزيرة العرب ليجد نفسه بين ليلة وضحاها مكلفا مهمة خطيرة. سبع وصايا كان على مزيد أن ينساها بعد قراءتها ويترك لرحلاته أن تكون تجليا لها. لكن شغفه بالكتب ومخالفته بعض الوصايا ختمنا رحلته بنهاية لم يكن يتوقعها.
