رواية من الأدب الكيني فيها بصمات كينيا وشعبها وتأريخ نضاله الطويل وأيضا نضاله ما بعد الاستقلال الذي كان أشق وأصعب عما سبقه. فالكاتب الكيني \"نفوجي واثيونغو\" يتبنى في هذه الرواية الصراع الذي أفرزه الواقع السياسي ما بعد الاستقلال وما ترتب على ذلك من صراعات بين قوى الثورة والشعب من جهة والقوى المستفيدة والمتسلقة من جهة أخرى. لقد ناقش المؤلف وضع كينيا بعد الاستقلال من خلال شخصيات الرواية، فحاول أن يطرح نماذج أبطاله (منيرا-أيجا-كاريغا) وشخصيات ثانوية أخرى، وذلك بربطها بحركة التاريخ اليومية بحيث تكون لها انتماءات طبقية ترفد عوالم الرواية وتظهر شكلها الغني من زوايا فهم التاريخ وحركة الواقع.
