رواية ذوبان الثلوج هي الصوت الوحيد الذي مزق به إهرنبورج جو الصمت الحذر الذي ساد الاتحاد السوفيتي بين وفاة ستالين وانعقاد المؤتمر العشرين كتب إهرنبورج هذه الرواية في 1954 قبل عاميين من انعقاد المؤتمر فأحدث نشرها دويا هائلا داخل الاتحاد السوفيتي وخارجه إذا اعتبرت من أهم الوثائق التي تبرز مساوئ عهد ستالين وتدينها في عمق وجسارة وليست \"ذوبان الثلوج\" مجرد وثيقة اجتماعية وسياسية، لكنها عمل فني متكامل، ينبض بالتقاليد العريقة للأدب الروسي التقليدي وأدب ديستوفسكي وتشكيوف وتولوستوي الذي يعرض مأساة الإنسان وبحثه الأزلي الأبدي عن حقيقة نفسه وحقيقة العالم.
