يقف السارد في الرواية التي صدرت طبعتها الثانية عن \"الآن ناشرون وموزعون\" (2020)، أمام مجتمع بدائي، تؤول فيه الأحداث وتتصرف الشخصيات تبعا لوحي إلهي أو جوهر متعالٍ، أو وفقا لتقاليد وأعراف موروثة، إذ يولد فيه طفل بطريقة مختلفة عن الآخرين، فيفسر هذا مباشرة بأن الطفل ولي أو ساحر، ويصف السارد ظروف الولادة قائلا : كان يعاند قَدَر الخروج إلى الواقع، فانتزعته القابلة، والعرق يتصبب من جبينها وأنفها، استعانت بظلفة الباب وهي تسحبه، ثم دلقت عينين مذعورتين لتلك الولادة الغريبة التي خرجت فيها القدمان قبل الرأس ومنذ ذلك اليوم، سميت المرأة : أم الساحر.
