يتناول الكتاب وثائق صحيحة قيمة عن أحوال المسلمين في مملكة إثيوبيا من شروق شمس الإسلام إلى هذه الأيام، تحتفظ ذاكرة التاريخ الإسلامي لبلاد «الحبشة» بمكانة متميزة ؛ لكونها حاضنة المهاجرين الأولى، حيث نزح إليها المسلمون الذين اصطلوا بنيران اضطهاد قومهم لهم في \"مكة\"، وتضييقهم عليهم في معاشهم وعبادتهم، ليجد هؤلاء المستضعفون عند \"النجاشي\" ملك الحبشة الرحيم متسعا من العدل والإحسان، والمؤلف في هذا الكتاب يتتبع فصول الإسلام في الحبشة منذ ذلك الحين، بل ويعود بالزمن إلى الوراء ليسلط الضوء على العلاقات القديمة بين أهل الحبشة والعرب، ويشير يوسف احمد إلى أن مناعة تلك الأرض الطبيعية والبشرية جعلتها عصية على الغزاة، حتى إن الإسلام دخل إليها بسلاسة مع التجار المسلمين.
