ألف الفيلسوف الكبير ابن سينا رسالة في \"ماهية العشق\" حاول من خلالها تفسير حركة الكون وعلاقة الأشياء الضرورية ببعضها، موضحا أن الموجودات في غريزتها تسعى ناحية الخير المطلق وتعشقه، وأن الخير المطلق متجل لها لذاتها، لكن درجة التفاعل مع هذا الخير بين الموجودات متفاوت على الحقيقة، متطرقا إلى عشق الوجوه الحسان، والنفوس الإلهية، ووجود العشق في الصورة النباتية والنفس الحيوانية.
