يتناول كتاب روائع الأوبرا العالمية حيث أن الأوبرا تمثيلية يرافقها الغناء والموسيقى السنفونية والرقص ومع أن تاريخها المجيد يعود إلى المسرح الغنائي الأغريقي وتمثيليات الروائيين الإغريق القدامى أمثال أسخيلوس وسوفوكليس إلا أن الأوبرا الحقيقية كما نعرفها اليوم هي إيطالية المنشأ والصنع وقد ابتكرتها جماعات عرفت باسم كاميراتا تأسست حوالي سنة 1580.
