هذا الكتاب المدون باليونانية القديمة، والذي لا نعرف له مؤلفا ولا تاريخا محددا، يصف سواحل البحر الذي عرفه اليونان والرومان باسم \"البحر الإريثري\" وينتمي الكتاب إلى لون معروف من المؤلفات التي اشتهرت باسم \"كتب الطواف\"، والتي نجد ما يناظرها عند الكتاب العرب والمسلمين بعد ذلك باسم \"المسالك والممالك\" ويتميز هذا الكتاب بأنه يزودنا بوصف شاهد عيان لسواحل البحر الأحمر وساحل عدن والخليج العربي وامتداده إلى الهند شرقا، ولما يجاورها من سكان وشعوب ولعاداتهم ومواردهم ومنتجاتهم، ومن هذه الناحية فإن الكتاب يتميز بمعلوماته الدقيقة والواقعية، وبكونه أشبه بدليل عام ومختصر للمناطق التي يصفها.
