التذوق الموسيقي هو فهم الموسيقى وإدراكها عن طريق الإحساس بالقيمة الجمالية لها، وهذا الإحساس بتضمن شقين : الاستماع ويرتبط عادة بالناحية الوجدانية للمستمع والمعرفة وترتبط بادراك المعارف أو المفاهيم الموسيقية، وبما أن الموسيقى فن مسموع فان الإنسان يستقبلها عن طريق أثر حاسة السمع بمؤثر معین الذي ينتقل بعد ذلك إلى المخ الذي يقوم بعملية الإدراك السمعي، ولقد اتفقت جميع كتب تذوق الموسيقى وتفهمها على أنه لا يمكن للإنسان تذوقه لهذا الفن إلا بالاستماع للموسيقى، ولن تجد عن الاستماع بديلا وكثيرا ما قابل أو أن تكون أنت بنفسك القائل (أنني أحب المريني كثيرا ولكننى لا افهم منها شيئا) بينما نادرا أن تقابل شخصا يقول (أننى لا أفهم شيئا عن المسرح أو القصة)
