يضم هذا الكتاب ثلاثا من أشهر محاورات أفلاطون التي تتحدث عن سقراط قبيل محاكمته، ثم عنه وهو يقدم دفاعه في وجه التهم التي اتهم بها أمام محمكة أثينا، ثم وهو في السجن رافضا دعوة أصدقائه له للفرار منه، مفضلا طاعة قوانين المدينة ولو كانت ظالمة، من أجل أن يظل دائما متسقا مع المباديء الأخلاقية التي ارتضاها لنفسه لا يحتوي هذا الكتاب، وحسب، على مقدمات وافية شاملة لكل واحدة من هذه المحاورات الثلاث : \"أوطيفرون\"، \"الدفاع\"، \"أقريطون\"، ولا هو يكتفي بمصاحبة المتن بشروح وتعليقات كثيرة، فلسفية وتاريخية ودينية ولغوية، تفسيرا لما يأتي في النص من مصطلحات، بل إنه يقدم أول ترجمة باللغة العربية لهذه المحاورات عن النص اليوناني القديم مباشرة.
