\"كتاب الإشارات الإلهية\" الذي نقلب صفحاته، وهو يقع بحسب قول ياقوت، في جزئين، لم يصل منهما سوى الأول، وقسم في الثاني أي ما بلغ 54 رسالة وملخصات من عشرة أخرى، وتعتمد الرسائل حجمها بناءً متشابهاً في التركيب الأصلي، يقوم على ركنين أساسيين هما : المناجاة (أو الدعاء) ومخاطبة شخص ما، والرسالة غالباً ما تبدأ بالدعاء، وتنتهي بالدعاء، وتتراوح فيما بينها من الخطاب والدعاء وأغراض أخرى، أبرزها شكوى الحال والزمان، وفي حوالي ثلثي الأحوال تنتهي بعبارة \"يا ذا الجلال والإكرام\"، والغالبية العظمى من الرسائل تتوجه إلى مريد لم يمعن في سلوك الطريق بعد، أو إلى رجل يراد له أن يجد في التصوف طريقاً إلى الهداية والنجاة، ولذا تزخر الرسائل بالنصائح إلى ذلك المخاطب لحمله على ترك الدنيا والإعراض عما فيها من شهوات ورغبات.
