هي مسرحية لإيلي ويزل حول محاكمة خيالية، يدعو الله كما المدعى عليه. على الرغم من أن المشهد في حد ذاته خيالي. يعطينا ويسل فكرة عن أصل مفهوم، المحاكمة : \"نشأته : داخل مملكة الليل، شاهدت تجربة غريبة. قرر ثلاثة حاخامات-جميعهم رجال مثقفون وأتقياء في إحدى ليالي الشتاء لإدانة الله لأنه سمح بذبح أطفاله. أتذكر : كنت هناك، وشعرت بالرغبة في البكاء. لكن لم يبكي أحد استمرت المحاكمة عدة ليال. تم سماع الشهود، وتم جمع الأدلة، واستخلاص الاستنتاجات، وجميعها صدرت أخيرا في حكم بالإجماع : الرب الله تعالى، خالق السماء والأرض، أدين بارتكاب جرائم ضد الخلق والبشرية. وبعد ذلك، بعد ما وصفه فيزل بـ \"الصمت اللامتناهي\"، نظر العالم التلمودي إلى السماء وقال \"حان وقت صلاة العشاء\"، وتلا أعضاء المحكمة معاريف، صلاة المساء.
