اشتمل هذا المعجم على نحو آلاف الألفظ برسومها، ووقع في جزأين كبيرين في نحو 1662 صفحة، وفتح فيه بابان مهمان : باب الوضع للألفاظ، وباب القياس فيما لم يسجل فيه قياس، ثم تتبعت اللجنة بعض ما تركته الطبعة الأولى من الألفاظ وفروعها ومن بعض الشروح والتفسيرات وبعض الضوابط في صيغ الأفعال، وأضافت إلى المعجم طائفة كبيرة من أمهات المصطلحات العلمية وألفاظ الحضارة، وراجعت تعريفات المصطلحات العلمية وزادتها دقة وإحكاما، واستكملت الشواهد القرآنية.
