إن أسلوب عقد المؤتمر السنوي للجمعيات العلمية هو الأسلوب الفعال الذي اختطته الجمعيات العلمية في البلدان المتقدمة لتحقيق أهدافها، ولذلك عقد معهد التراث العلمي العربي بجامعة حلب خلال يومي 12 و13 نيسان (إبريل) 1978 المؤتمر السنوي الثالث للجمعية السورية لتاريخ العلوم، وقد صدرت عن هذا المؤتمر توصيات هامة، يقدم المؤلفان للباحثين والمهتمين بالتراث العلمي العربي هذا الكتاب الذي يجمع بين دفتيه الأبحاث والدراسات التي ألقيت خلال المؤتمر، وطبيعي أن تكون مستويات الأبحاث والدراسات المنشورة متفاوتة فيما بينها من حيث العمق والأصالة ولكنها تعتبر بمجملها مساهمة قيمة في ميدان تاريخ العلوم العربية.
