يسرد المؤلف في الرسائل يومياته في السجن ؛ انتصاراته الصغيرة مع زملائهِ في تجهيز حديقة صغيرة، وتأقلمه مع ظروف الاعتقال. ويصور لنا عبد اللطيف اللعبي بأسلوب مفرط في العذوبة تلك المعركة الذاتية التي شهدها بعد دخوله المعتقل إثر نشاطه السياسي سنة 1972، حتى خروجه سنة 1980. وقد وجه معظم الرسائل التي نقرأها على امتداد 416 صفحة إلى زوجته مع رسائل قليلة لأصدقائه ولأطفاله.
