يموت الإنسان عندما يفقد القدرة على الحلم، ولعبة الأحلام هي دعوة للتمسك بالأحلام في زمن الكوابيس. حكاية روح تحاول التمسك بحقها بإطلاق حلمها الأخير رغم معاندة قطار الحياة، وعندما يرحل القطار دون ذلك تتراخى قبضة الجسد، فينطلق طائر الحلم الأخير ليحمل الروح بين عالم الإنسان تارة وعالم الحيوان تارة أخرى، وفي كل دورة تصارع تلك الروح عقبات الواقع، فتنتصر مرة وتهزم أخرى، لكنها تتمسك بحقها في إطلاق حلمها الأخير.
