سعى المؤلف إلى محاولة تقديم قراءة فلسفية وفكرية ونقدية منفتحة لإشكالية الهوية في علاقاتها باللسان العربي إنطلاقا من فرضية أساسية سعى إلى الدفاع عنها تذهب إلى التأكيد على العلاقة الجدلية والوثيقة الموجودة ما بين اللسان والأمة في سياق الهوية الحضارية والثقافية العربية والإسلامية المتعددة الأبعاد والمختلفة المشارب والمرجعيات، وقد حاول أن يشير إلى أن المشاكل والصعوبات التي تعترض مسار التنمية والتحديث في الوطن العربي ناجمة في أغلبها عن سوء فهم للدور الذي يمكن أن تلعبه قضايا اللسان واللغة في مواجهة التحديات التي تواجه عملية بناء وتطوير المجتمعات العربية.
