يقع الكتاب في أربعة أجزاء يتناول الجزء الأول منها المفاهيم الأساسية بما في ذلك التمثيل والرقابة والأخلاق والتفسير والدارما وغيرها أما الجزء الثاني فيدرس إنجاز بعض الأسماء المهمة في عالم دارسة الفلسفة والسينما والنظريات السينمائية ويركز الجزء الثالث على الأنماط والأنواع الفيلمية مثل السينما التجسيمية والتجريبية وأفلام الرعب وينتهي الكتاب بالجزء الرابع الذي يلقي الضوء على بعض السينمائيين المهمين الذين يتناولون قضايا فلسفية في أفلامهم مثل تاركوفسكي وبيرجمان وتيارنس.
