يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى دراسة الفضاء الروائي، متخذة من روايات محمد حسن علوان أنموذجا تطبيقيا، وهي: \"رواية القندس 2004\"، \"رواية صوفيا 2012\"، \"رواية طوق الطهارة 2013\"، \"رواية سقف الكفاية 2014 ، رواية موت صغير 2016، إذ إن رواياته تميزت بنمط روائي متعدد البناء، فكل رواية تحتوي على مسرح تحتدم فيه الأحداث، وتتصارع في ميدانه الواسع أفكار وشخصيات ومناخات اجتماعية ومعطيات أخلاقية ورؤى فوقية، وهذا ما اصطلح عليه النقاد \" بالفضاء\"، فالفضاء يؤلف إطارا يتفاعل مع العناصر البنائية الأخرى في الرواية، ومن ثم يقوم بأداء وظائف عديدة في النصوص السردية، وكيف يهين الكاتب فضاءات تسهم في بناء الرواية بناء فنيا، يجمع بين وظائف الفضاء ودلالته الفنية.
