كتاب منتخب مختصر تاريخ بغداد واحد من الكتب الخطية التي قدر لها أن لا ترى النور ردحا من الزمن، مع أنه من الكتب ذات القيمة الأدبية والتاريخية، وألفه طبيب متمرس توخى فيه الاختصار، فجاء أشبه ما يكون بكتب التذكرات التي لا تخلو منها مكتبة من مكتبات الباحثين والعلماء في الماضي والحاضر، لأنه يسهل الطريق في الوصول إلى المعرفة، مثلما يقلل من الجهد ويعمد إلى تركيز المعلومات، ومن هنا نبعث فكرة تحقيق هذا الكتاب، وقد احتوى على قسمين الأول لدراسة ما يتعلق بالمؤلف والكتاب والقسم الثاني خصص لتحقيق النص وتقويم ما انثنى من عباراته.
