يتناول الكتاب حياة وأعمال القديس فرنسيس الأسيزي الأصاغر، ولد القديس فرنسيس في إيطاليا، وتحول إلى حياة الرهبنة وكان له إسهامات دينية حيث أسس لثلاثة أنظمة رهابنية الأول هو نظام رهبنة الرجال (الأخوة الأصاغر-الفرنسيسكان) والثاني هو رهبنة النساء (نظام القديسة كلير الأسيزية) والثالث هو نظام (الرهبنة العلمانية) كما كانت له إسهامات اجتماعية وفكرية في أوروبا في العصور الوسطى.
