يتناول هذا البحث، الأدب العربي السوري، منذ الاستقلال الذي أعقب الحرب العالمية الثانية، حتى قيام الوحدة السورية-المصرية ويواجه منذ البداية صعوبات شتى، فتاريخ الأدب العربي المعاصر في سورية لم يكتب حتى اليوم، ومحاولة تتبع الأدب السوري وتقصي تطوره واتجاهاته، والتعرف على فنونه، وأبرز أعلامه تقتضي تسقط هذا الأدب، من خلال دراسات مبعثرة في الصحف والمجلات والرجوع إلى بعض الكتب التي سلطت الضوء على فن واحد من الفنون الأدبية، أو اتجاه من الاتجاهات والمذاهب الفنية في الأدب، أو قدمت سجلا مختصرا الشعراء مرحلة من المراحل، وعرضت نماذج من أشعارهم.
