دروب السرتاو هي الرواية الوحيدة والتحفة الأدبية الخالدة للكاتب البرازيلي جواو غيمارايس روزا. صدرت سنة 1956، فكانت ثورة رجت أركان المشهد الأدبي في البرازيل وغيرت ملامحه بشكل عميق. خلق فيها الكاتب لغة جديدة، طرح بناء روائيا مختلفا، وجرب طريقة مجددة في تناول قضايا الفرد والمجتمع. لقد عرف غيمارايس روزا روايته بأنها \"سيرة ذاتية غير منطقية\". يستغل النص فضاء السرتاو البرازيلي، بأراضيه الشاسعة وحياته الصعبة التي يتيه الإنسان بين دروبها وتعرجاتها، لرسم ملحمة يختلط فيها مصير الجماعة بحياة الفرد. وفي قلب السرتاو، \"أرض بحجم العالم\"، هناك ريوبالدو، الراوي البطل، ذلك الجاغونسو المتواضع الذي صار مزارعا كبيرا، وهو يحكي ذكريات حياته لمحاور مجهول، فتطفو شخصيته بنبلها وتناقضاتها، بضوئها وعتمتها، بما ينالها من عناية الرب وغواية الشيطان، بما تعانيه من ألم وعنف، وما يميز روحها من حب وتفاعل إنساني مع كل من عرفهم من رجال ونساء السرتاو.
