قصة حقيقية وبطلها حقيقي مختار الخنشلي أمريكي من أبوين يمنيين وأحداث الرواية كلها حقيقية إلى درجة لأتصدق الرواية للكاتب الأمريكي ديف ايقرز لكن مترجمها إلى العربية هو الصديق الشاعر والمترجم وأستاذ مادة الترجمة في كلية اللغات جامعة صنعاء الدكتور عبد الوهاب المقالح كانت إحدى دور النشر العربية قد اتفقت معه على ترجمتها وكان من حسن حظي أنني قرأتها قبل أن تطبع وتنشر قال لي وهو يسلمني إياها شوفها وراجعها لوفي أخطاء مطبعية أو غيرها لكن الخطأ الوحيد أو بالاصح الخطيئة التي كنت على وشك اقترافها هو اني وضعتها جانبا ووسوست لي نفسي بتأجيل قراءتها اعتقادا مني بانها رواية من جيز الروايات لكن اتضح لي فيما بعد بان رواية (راهب المخا) رواية استثنائية في زمن استثنائي.
