يحاول القراء إيهام أنفسهم بأنهم يحبذون الفلسفة والشعر في حالتيهما المجردتين. فمن الأولى، يحفظون صيغا لا يفهمونها إلا جزئيا وتظلم رؤيتهم وتقلقل مفاهيمهم. ومن الثاني، ينشدون إرشادات تلقنهم كيفية العيش وأفكارا نيرة وعبرا تتخذ شكل الانفعالات، علما أن الأمر ليس كذلك. يتموضع هذا الكتاب عند تلك التخوم ويطالعنا فيه فلاسفة (كأفلاطون وديكارت وفيكو وليوباردي وكنت ونيتشه...) لحظة يحاولون قراءة الشعر، ساعين إلى التعرف على ما يحدثهم عبر الصوت الداخلي الشاعري الغريب وفهمه والاسترسال في الحلم معه، ومحاولين التعبير عنه في نبرتهم الخاصة نوعا ما، سواء خفية أو على العكس من خلال إبقائه مسرحيا على بعد مسافة منهم. ويضطلع هؤلاء إجمالا بدور التأليف، وكأن هذه التوليفة أشبه بمعزوفة متعثرة إنما ضرورية، ويبحثون من دون كلل أو ملل عن السبب الذي يدفعهم إلى القيام بهذا العمل، فيجدونه حينا ويفقدونه أحيانا.
