يتناول كتاب \"فاتحة لنهايات القرن\" والذي قام بتأليفه \"أدونيس\" في حوالي (335) صفحة من القطع المتوسط موضوع (الحضارة العربية)، من أجواء الكتاب ثلاثون سنة : كل شيء يزداد سوءا. تقلص فضاء الحرية، وتزايد القمع. قلت حظوظنا بالتأسيس للديموقراطية والمجتمع المدني، وللتعددية والتنوع، وازدادت أسس العنف والطغيان رسوخا. ونحن اليوم أقل تدينا وتسامحا، وأكثر طائفية وتعصبا. أقل وحدة وأكثر تفككا. أقل انفتاحا وتقبلا للآخر المختلف وأشد ظلامية وانغلاقا. هكذا، نحن اليوم، أكثر فقرا وأكثر وهنا. وما نسميه الوطن، آخذ في أن يتحول إلى ثكنة عسكرية، أو دسكرة طائفية، أو مخيم قبلي.
