جاءت فصول الكتاب السبعة مرتبة ترتيبا نظريا ومنهجيا فأولها ناقش موضوع الضبط الاجتماعي نشأته ومفهومه العلمي وإطاره الاجتماعي وثانيها ناقش المنطلقات النظرية للضبط الاجتماعي وثالثها ناقش آليات الضبط الاجتماعي العرفية والرسمية والعملياتية بينما ناقش الفصل الرابع دور المؤسسات الاجتماعية في الضبط الاجتماعي وضم المؤسسات الأسرية التربوية السياسية والقانونية أما الفصل الخامس فناقش بعض العوامل الاجتماعية المؤثرة في ميدان الضبط الاجتماعي وتحرى الفصل السادس موضوع \"اللاضبط الإجتماعي\" بين الأسباب الاجتماعية والفردية وعبر محورين أساسيين الأول ركز على مقومات البناء الاجتماعي للمجتمع والثاني بمقومات البناء النفسي للفرد ويأتي الفصل السابع والأخير ليتناول دور الدين في ضبط المجتمع وعبر ثلاثة محاور أساسية جسدت الضبط في الديانات اليهودية والمسيحية والإسلامية.
