التلبيات جمع \"تلبية\" وهي القطعة من الرجز أو القول المسجوع، التي كانت كل قبيلة من قبائل العرب ترددها بشكل جماعي في مواسم الحج للكعبة وهي أي التلبيات نمط من أنماط الشعر الشعبي الجاهلي الذي توافرت له كل السمات والخصائص التي تكون عادة في الأنموذج الفلكلوري الكامل، من كونه نتاج العامة الذي لا يعرف على وجه التحديد أول من قاله أو صنعه، كما هو شأن أي إنتاج يصدر عن العامة، منطوقا كان، كأغاني الأفراح، وما تردده الندابات، أو مصنوعا كأواني الطبخ المصنوعة من الطين أو الخشب فيتناقله الناس ويأخذون بتداوله جيلا بعد جيل دون أن يعرف أول من قاله أو صنعه على وجه القطع والتحدي.
