هذه هي الرواية الثانية لعبد الحكيم قاسم بعد روايته الأولى \"أيام الإنسان السبعة\" ؛ وهي صياغة فنية للحلم الفردي بعالم أقل قبحا وأكثر جمالا تنتقل هذه الرواية مكانيا من إحدى قرى الدلتا إلى شوارع الإسكندرية إلى أزقة القاهرة إلى سجون مصر المختلفة ثم إلى أحياء برلين الغربية. وتمتد زمنيا من طفولة إلى كهولة راويها الفرد. وهي في انتقالاتها عبر الأمكنة تحاول أن تسبغ الحياة على الموجودات والأشياء وتدفع في شرايينها الدم. وهي في امتدادها عبر الزمن, تحاول الإمساك بحلم مراوغ وبجمال مناور يستعصيان على الإمساك.
