في هذا العمل النادر للكاتب الكبير سعد مكاوي، يكتب عن التاريخ وكأنه يستكمل قصصه الواقعية عن الحاضر في دلتا مصر وريفها البكر، خصوصا في أوساط فلاحي القرية وأرجائها وحرفيي المدينة ومشايخها وسادتها، صانعا صراعا لا يكاد ينتهي بين السادة والعبيد وبين الأغنياء والفقراء. تدور الأحداث في زمن الحملة الفرنسية وماعاناه أهل مصر من حملة بونابرت وما كان من وقائع بين المصريين ولاد البلد والفرنسيين.
