رواية جميلة وشيقة وواقعية إلى حد كبير تتلخص أحداثها في أعقاب ثورة 1952 وحكم جمال عبد الناصر فهى تحكي عن سيدة من كبريات سيدات المجتمع تدعي زينب هانم كانت متزوجة من شوكت باشا وكان يحب الملك ظاهريا لكنه في الحقيقة كان يكرهه ويساعد الضباط الأحرار إلى أن تمت الثورة فحكم بمصادرة أمواله وأملاكه وأرضه وتم تشويه سمعته بانه كان مناصرا للملك رغم إنه حقيقة لم يكن كذلك إلى إنه لم يطق هذه الحياة وانتحر فتبدأ القصة بعد وفاته ومحاولة زينب هانم تهريب ابنها رامي لعمه في لندن لأنه كان مناهضا للثورة علي خلفية انتحار والده.
