Overview
مر الفكر الاستراتيجي الأوربي بعدة مراحل بداية من العصر الوسيط مرورا ببروز الدولة القومية؛ حيث مثلت هذه المرحلة انطلاقة للفكر الاستراتيجي الأوربي الحديث وبرز الفكر الاستراتيجي العسكري بشكل واضح في إيطاليا، وكان من رواد هذه الفترة ميكيافليي من خلال كتابه فن الحرب والذي سعى إلى تطوير الخطط العسكرية والأسلحة في إيطاليا مقارنة بالدول الأوربية الأخرى، وبدأ الفكر الاستراتيجي يتطور أكثر فأكثر بداية من القرن الثامن عشر. ويعود هذا إلى التعقيدات المتنامية لفن الحرب وقوة الدولة التي كانت تسعى للهيمنة والتوسع على حساب دول أخرى.
