Overview
Toxinology has a long and cherished tradition of genius and eccentricity. The animals and clinical effects studied by our specialty foster a unique medical perspective that is only occasionally punctuated by a bout of fisticuffs. The study of toxins has produced knowledge and products that have improved the health of millions, perhaps billions, of people. The many diagnostic and therapeutic applications of antisera alone have influenced the treatment of many diseases, especially in less-developed countries. Sodiumchannel blockade affects scores of diseases. In the context of medical books, toxinology has generated unique books and informative books, and, in rare and beautiful examples, even some uniquely informative books. There is no medical publication that can survive the devastating critique of an ardent toxicology housestaff, and we concluded that Australian Animal Toxins is a uniquely informative book.
