Overview
Forcing cone, whose function is mainly to accommodate bearing band of projectile, is an important design parameter of howitzer barrel design. Forcing cone’s taper directly influences engraving resistance of projectile and wear of starting part of rifling. So structure design of forcing cone is very important to barrel life. So structure design of forcing cone is very important to barrel life. This paper simulates nine types of forcing cone structure and analysis the results. Based on the simulation results, the best forcing cone scheme is closed. This research will provide support to our nation’s next generation 155mm caliber howitzer.
